The Secret Place

It's so important to understand the seriousness of the need to stay in close, intimate relationship with God.  We can't allow ourselves to venture too far off from Him.  What this means is that we cannot afford to go too long without prayer, studying, devotion, fellowship, church, etc.  We must stay close!  The closer we are to Him, the safer and more secure we are as His daughter.  The farther away we stray, the higher our chances of finding confusion, instability, a lack of discipline and focus, an inability to control our emotions and lusts, and a scatter-brained approach to everything we do.  This place is a prime location for a spiritual attack because we are highly vulnerable and susceptible to the tricks of the enemy and our own flesh.

However, if we will purposely stay close to God, His promise is that [she] who dwells in the secret place of the most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1).  That secret place is our relationship with him, and it’s the source of our ultimate safety and security. It is the place between us and God that results from our experience with Him.  It is the intimate place where our worship and praise is personal and cannot be uttered with words, but only our unyielding, uncompromising, uninterrupted submission to Him as our Lord. It is our love affair with Him, and it is the place where we will find our greatest strength, peace and fulfillment for our lives.  Outside of this “secret place”, there is imminent danger.  But within the confines of our relationship with God, we will find protection from the snares of the enemy, and more importantly, ourselves (in the flesh).

So I encourage you today, above all things, make sure your relationship with God remains the highest priority in your life.  Safe guard your time with Him.  Place boundaries in your life that shield your relationship from the encroachment of the "busy"-ness of our everyday lives that can all too often consume our time, energy and attention and leave our relationship with God wanting.  Stay focused on seeking Him for who He is, not just what He can do for you.  And if, for some reason, you have ventured off-course, it’s not too late to return to His secret place.  He’s waiting!
